RETAINING WALLS
& HILLSIDE ISSUES
Renowned Hillside Expertise
At Avalon we are fearless and creative when it comes to retaining walls and hillside issues. Almost no project is too challenging for our team of experienced hillside construction experts. We have built retaining walls of all kinds, repaired failed hillsides prevented landslides with soil stabilization, repaired washed-out roads and stabilized roads before they failed, and built challenging hillside additions to homes. We've seen it all and can do it all. Here are some samples of what you will see on our other pages in this section.
Retaining Walls
Avalon builds attractive retaining walls that will stand the test of time. The bottom course is formed of durable concrete while the upper courses are standard wooden lagging. The upper portion of the wall extends above the retained earth and functions as an impact wall to protect against debris flow from up the hill.

Hillside Stabilization
A very efficient method of hillside stabilization and erosion control is soil nails with MacMat.
Hillside Road Repair
Here the road had begun to slip down the hillside and was falling apart with large cracks. Avalon fortified the road with drilled reinforced concrete piers, helical tiebacks and a reinforced concrete wall. Here tiebacks are installed to grip deep into the hillside, for lateral support.
Hillside Additions
In this challenging hillside addition, Avalon found creative solutions to provide more value to the client. Pin piles and grade beam have been poured (left side of photo) as excavation continues. Existing foundation has been marked and excavation later completed by removing ramp from above.
